The Théâtre du Châtelet is one of the main scene of the City of Paris. At the head of this institution since July 2006, Jean-Luc Choplin perpetuates a trradition allying excellence and originality in lyrical and choreographic creation, while facilitating the access to the shows to new audiences.
Audacious and international, the Châtelet's programming is now based on three themes:
· the opening of the arts through the combination of music, film or visual arts.
· the opening to all audiences: nearly 70% of new spectators discovered the Theâtre du Châtelet in the past two seasons.
· the opening to young artists and contemporary creation: Monkey Journey to the West's creation, a Damon Albarn's opera, Bintou Were's creation, first opera performed by Sahel African's artists, or The Fly, a Howard Shore's opera, Canadian composer.
Accor Foundation project’s support for the 2009/2010 season at Théâtre du Châtelet is two-fold:
Appealing to younger audiences by inviting over 1,300 school children from Académie de Paris (46 classes) to find out about the theatre, its productions and its activities through a teaching project devised with their teachers and through access to shows at a special rate.
Appealing to other cultures by supporting the production of Impempe Yomlingo, a South African interpretation of the Magic Flute. The original production results from a company consisting of black South African actors and singers from townships. The aim is to endow a new image on townships inhabitants and promote their economic and cultural development. Assistance from Accor corporate Foundation will open up other theatres in Europe.
This project is within the scope of “Culture & Heritage”.
