Training for HIV-positive women in silk weaving and jewellery creation
Pavithran Nambiar, Novotel Hyberadad's General Manager as well as 1000 employees of 2 Hyberadad Novotels in India are extremely involved in the Nireekshana efforts, a local NGO in India that offers complete services (clinical, counseling, education, food, housing) to 700 relocated Indian families affected by aids.
Indeed, since 2006 Accor employees pay 100 rupees each month to the association, that is more 20 000 euros given directly by the employees in 3 years. Teams also provide technical assistance (buildings rehabilitation, computer setting up...), many families and staff trips are organized, and bracelets are sold 1$ in hotels for the benefit of the association.
Accor coporate Foundation helps them to go farther by bringing them a 19 200 € financial support for the "Malika Sewing" project. The "Sewing Malika" project aims to train 60 HIV-positive widows already followed by Nireekshana.
The training in traditional crafts of silk weaving, henna painting, "western" quality jewellery creating, takes place 5 days a week, in addition to the care that the association provides. This training is supervised by voluntary western professors and aims to bring women to a financial and social independence.
