An emergency fund for the victims of the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010
The French Red Cross is a French association established over 140 years ago and dedicated to combating health, social and medico-social problems on several fronts. In January 2009, the French Red Cross set up a food security and economic rehabilitation support program for the community of Anse Rouge in Haiti. This Red Cross delegation has launched three projects for earthquake victims that are supported by the Accor Foundation:
• Project 1:
- Objective: to reduce the population’s vulnerability by supplying drinking water.
- Accor Foundation’s contribution: rental and fuel costs for two trucks supplying the drinking water distribution sites.
• Project 2:
- Objective: to improve the population’s living conditions by covering their basic needs with the provision of shelters and the distribution of first necessity products.
- Accor Foundation’s contribution: purchase of 300 mosquito nets and 5,119 jerry cans.
• Project 3:
- Objective: to improve the population’s sanitary conditions by setting up two fixed clinics offering primary health care and psychosocial support.
- Accor Foundation’s contribution: donation for the psychosocial support activities of the Pétionville clinic in the West of the Port-au-Prince region.
The Accor Foundation has also set up an URL address so Accor employees can make donations for Haiti online.
As well as the actions of the Foundation, Accor’s employees are also responsible for several initiatives taken by the brands, head offices and countries. For example, Accor Services France organized a vast campaign to collect Luncheon Vouchers from its clients, potential clients and employees for the French Red Cross.
This project falls under the Foundation’s “Humanitarian & Emergency” field of intervention.
Total amount donated by the Accor Foundation: €50,000.
