Festival d'Aix-en-Provence
Imparting opera-related trades in the "Ateliers de Venelles"
Created in 1948, the international lyrical art Festival d'Aix-en-Provence has become a major event in the lyrical production's world and has a growing influence beyond the French borders. It is held annually in June and July. In 2009, over 65,000 visitors attended one of the four lyrical productions, the 19 concerts or 29 recitals given between 27 June and 31 July.
The Aix-en-Provence festival has for several years launched a large number of actions intended to increase awareness among a young audience about the opera and to help young people find a job. To achieve this, actions are implemented by a dedicated teaching team using workshops to manufacture décors and costumes for the Festival located 7 km from Aix-en-Provence: the Ateliers de Venelles.
By supporting the Ateliers de Venelles, the Accor corporate Foundation project’s objective is to increase awareness of the 1,500 students in the region about opera and introduce them to ‘opera-related activities’ (costumes, décors, sound, etc.) for 200 young people aged between 25 and 35 looking to find a job.
