Focus on SOS Villages d’enfants
To build a school canteen for the Douala village.
Marc Aubry, Technical Director of West and East Africa, Accor.
SOS Villages d’Enfants allows brothers and sisters who cannot live with their parents to experience the joy of growing up together in a family atmosphere. It offers the stable emotional and educational surroundings children need for their development.
For a while, employees from the ibis Douala hotel have been helping the SOS Children’s villages with animation of all sorts and awareness-raising initiatives. They had identified the lack of a place where the children could have their meals together: with technical help from Marc Aubry, Technical Director for Accor Africa, they worked for several months together with the SOS team to plan the school canteen.
The Accor Foundation helped to finance this canteen in a village in Douala to provide meals for pupils at school. It was inaugurated on 10 November 2009. Today, as a result of this project, more than 150 children can enjoy at least one meal a day. Local teams visit every two months to make sure the canteen is well run.
