Focus on Perkins School
To support the set up of a science workshop for young blind adults.
Sara Gyllstrom, Sales Manager Accor Services, Accor Services Watertown Head office (a company that left the Accor Group in June 2010).
Perkins school is an American NGO founded in 1829. It is involved in training and integration of young people with mental, visual and hearing problems. Based in the USA, Perkins supports 90,000 young people in 61 countries. A Perkins School is located two kilometers from Accor Services Head office in Watertown. Since June 2009, Accor Services USA launched a volunteer program aimed at the 45 employees of the Watertown Head office, over a one-year period.
The Accor Foundation is supporting installation of a science workshop for young people aged from 15 to 30 years-old. The goal of this workshop is to develop the young people’s technical and tactile capacities through a training program that is validated at the end of the year by a national “English Language Arts and Mathematics” diploma (high-school level). Four Accor Services employees spend a day a week on specific jobs (admin work, helping to supervise children during sports and educational activities…).
