Focus on Nireekshana
Traditional trades to empower HIV-positive women to achieve social and financial self-reliance.
Paul Archer, General Manager Delegate of Novotel Hyderabad.
Madhupal TV, Director of Human Resources of Novotel Hyderabad.
Nireekshana, a local NGO, was created in 1992 by a couple of famous Indian doctors. They offer complete services (clinical, counseling, education, food, housing) to 700 relocated Indian families affected by Aids.
1,000 employees of 2 Hyberadad Novotels in India are extremely involved in the Nireekshana efforts in India. Indeed, since 2006, Accor employees pay more than €1,50 each month (that is 100 rupees) to the association. That is how the employees gave directly more than €20,000 in 3 years. Teams also provide technical assistance (buildings rehabilitation, computer setting up…), many families and staff trips are organized, and bracelets are sold $1 in hotels for the benefit of the association.
The “Mallika Sewing” project aims to train 60 HIV-positive widows already followed by Nireekshana.
The training in traditional crafts of silk weaving, henna painting, “western” quality jewellery creating, takes place 5 days a week, in addition to the care that the association provides. This training is supervised by voluntary western professors and aims to bring women to a financial and social independence. In 2011, several of the women will be taking courses in marketing, to improve their productivity and profits.
