Focus on GIE JAMM
To create a farm by developing profitable and sustainable economic activities.
Vincent Dujardin, General Manager Pullman Dakar Teranga.
Khonou Djite Kane, Gardens and Green Space Officer at the Pullman Dakar Teranga.
Khonou Djite Kane is Gardens and Green Space Officer at the Pullman Dakar Teranga and he is a graduate of the National School of Horticulture of Senegal. In 1994, he created GIE JAMM to support displaced families affected by separatist movements in Casamance. The GIE is an Economic Interest Group which deploys all the means required to facilitate or develop an economic activity for a fixed period.
Khonou Djite Kane and Vincent Dujardin asked the Accor Foundation to fund the creation of a farm in Casamance. The farm’s objective is to develop profitable and sustainable economic activities which will enable these families to recover economic stability and improve their family life.
The families are organized into a cooperative and supervised and trained by an agricultural engineer and by the students of the National School of Horticulture of Senegal. They learn to cultivate and sell staple foods such as rice, millet and sorghum.
They will be selling these products on local markets, and using the proceeds to rebuild their lives. They have chosen women to run the project.
