The French Red Cross is an association established over 140 years ago and dedicated to combating health, social and medico-social problems on several fronts.  In January 2009, the French Red Cross set up a food security and economic rehabilitation support program for the community of Anse Rouge in Haiti.

Croix Rouge françaiseThis Red Cross delegation has launched three projects for earthquake victims that are supported by the Accor Foundation:

Project 1 :

  • Objective: to reduce the population’s vulnerability by supplying drinking water.
  • Accor Foundation’s contribution: rental for two trucks supplying the drinking water distribution sites and fuel costs.
  • Support of €15,000.

Project 2 :

  • Objective: to improve the population’s living conditions by covering their basic needs with the provision of shelters and the distribution of first necessity products.
  • Accor Foundation’s contribution: purchase of 300 mosquito nets and 5,119 jerry cans.
  • Support of €16,000.

Project 3

  • Objective: to improve the population’s sanitary conditions by setting up two fixed clinics offering primary health care and psychosocial support.
  • Accor Foundation’s contribution: donation for the psychosocial support activities of the Pétionville clinic in the West of the Port-au-Prince region.
  • Support of €19,000.

The Accor Foundation had also set up an URL address so Accor employees could make donations for Haiti online. As well as the actions of the Foundation, Accor’s employees were also responsible for several initiatives taken by the brands, head offices and countries. For example, in each countries, the Accor head offices got in touch with the local Red Cross.
